Japan to Convene First-Ever Summit with Five Central Asian Nations
The two-day meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, is designed to boost trade and investment ties, while opening discussions on how to promote autonomous and sustainable development across Central Asia, the ministry said.
Presidents and senior leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are expected to attend. Talks will also cover global affairs and ways to deepen bilateral relationships between Japan and each participating nation.
Officials said discussions are expected to include cooperation on artificial intelligence as well as strengthening supply chain resilience.
In addition to the multilateral summit, Takaichi is scheduled to hold separate one-on-one meetings with each Central Asian leader.
On the sidelines, Japan’s Economy Ministry will organize a “Central Asia plus Japan” business forum aimed at encouraging private-sector engagement.
The summit had initially been planned for August 2024 in Kazakhstan, but was postponed after Japan issued a mega earthquake advisory.
